MSc thesis project proposal

48V to 1V power converters for data centers in monolithic GaN technology

The fast development of data centers requires high-efficiency data converters with a high conversion ratio. Conventional silicon-based converters may no longer be sufficient to satisfy the efficiency requirements. GaN technology, on the other hand, can potentially offer significant efficiency improvement. In this project,  we will explore the design of a state-of-the-art 48V to 1V converter in the most advanced GaN technology.

Assignment

The following project activities are expected:

·         Comprehensive literature study

·         System-level behavior model

·         Transistor-level circuit design

·         The project facilitates a tapeout

·         Thesis writing

Requirements

You are an ambitious master student with good analog circuit design knowledge and high motivation. You should have obtained good grades from the following courses: Measurement and instrumentation, Analog circuit design fundamentals, CMOS I/II, Power conversion in CMOS technology.
