[2020] Unobtrusive monitoring of internal bleeding

Internal bleeding is a common, hard to diagnose clinical problem, which affects post-operative patients and victims of blunt abdominal trauma. It is a major cause of morbidity and avoidable mortality. The aim is advance a novel approach developed in-house for the unobtrusive monitoring of internal bleeding. Your responsibilities will be to conduct experiments with a custom-built experimental setup using different sensing modalities (including accelerometers and piezo pressure sensors), processing the acquired signal and to develop a computer model to simulate the physical measurement principle.

Requirements

- A master’s student in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Applied Physics or related discipline.
- Good background in biomedical signal processing and interest in conducting biomedical experiments. Background in computer modeling is also desirable.
- Ability to conduct a literature review and excellent written and communication skills are essential.
- Willingness to study essential physiology.

Starting date: As soon as possible from June 2018 onwards. After selection, it takes approximately four weeks and eight weeks respectively for administrative processing of Dutch and international students respectively.
